The beginning of a new calendar year is always a moment of reflection on the past twelve months as well as looking into the future and setting new goals. This January was particularly motivating to our company as we have had the honour of being admitted to Związek Przedsiębiorców Branży Tłumaczeniowej POLOT. This organisation was established in the spring of 2019 as a response to the need for uniting the translation industry and adopting a common stance in issues of importance. POLOT is a platform where competing companies can safely discuss the future of the sector, adopted strategies, modern solutions and any other issues that trouble its members. The founders of POLOT are active entrepreneurs in the translation industry. Their activities are supported by over a dozen entities who share their vision of the industry. A year ago, when we were making plans for the new year, none of us expected what could unfold. 2020 will be a year to remember for all of us. COVID-19 changed our lives and the way we think. Even during such challenging times, MD Online found many reasons to stay positively challenged. Here are some of the highlights of this passing year. Even though we could not hold our annual retreat, we have organised online training for our translators. This year we have cooperated with over 500 professional translators coming from all over the globe who skillfully work with most major CAT tools. MD Online Academy training sessions showed how CAT tools can make translations much more efficient and accurate. Happy International Translators’ Day!

Jerome of Stridon lived in the 4th and 5th centuries. He is one of the Catholic saints and a patron saint of translators. Today is the day when he is remembered and the International Translators Day. St. Jerome, author of Vulgate Jerome was the first person in history who translated the Bible from Greek and Aramaic into Latin. This translation was called Wulgata and it took 24 years to prepare it. It should be remembered that the translation process was long and carried out without tools, which are now considered fundamental. Nowadays, tools like dictionaries and CAT tools allow us to translate even the longest texts with the highest quality and consistency in time much shorter than Jerome’s case.
